Ford Explorer Engine Options

A hybrid powertrain is a new addition to the 2020 Ford Explorer's lineup. This efficient propulsion system includes a 3.3L engine block with a naturally aspirated V6 design. Also having a new platform, the 3.0L EcoBoost engine comes with twin turbochargers and a V6 layout. A single turbocharger optimizes combustion in the 2.3L EcoBoost engine that has an I-4 design. All three powertrain units in the Ford Explorer are paired with an automatic gearbox that generates up to 10 speeds. You'll easily engage optimum gear ratios with some assistance from the SelectShift technology.

Equipped with an all-new rear-wheel drive, the 2020 Explorer is more versatile than ever before. The RWD system allows the car to maintain optimum traction on urban streets and off-road trails. This driveline configuration also lets the vehicle tow a trailer with a net weight of 5,600 pounds.

If you'd like to explore the wilderness around Herkimer with more reassurance, get a model that rolls on the Intelligent 4WD system. You can optimize this drivetrain by engaging the Selectable Drive Modes. With seven settings to choose from, you'll find the ideal combinations of stability, power and traction on any landscape. For example, a single mode engages the Deep Snow/Sand option.

You can also select the Slippery Mode to get better traction on a wet road. Additionally, the Trail Mode maintains the car's poise on rugged paths. Want to conserve fuel for a long road trip? Let the Eco Mode control the drivetrain. If you're towing a trailer, select the Tow/Haul Mode for the 4WD. This premium Ford SUV also gets major leverage from the Terrain Management System that's been extensively tested on some of America's toughest landscapes.

Design & Space

Available with up to 87 cubic feet of cargo space, the 2020 Explorer can transport plenty of personal items. This specification is measured directly behind the first-row seats. The front seats are available with a perforated leather finish, which has the Tri-Diamond design. Having an all-new configuration, the Active Motion technology optimizes the ergonomics of the front seats, which also come with heating. Second-row captain's chairs are optional for extra comfort, and the pass-through console allows more freedom of movement inside the cabin. The E-Z Entry design also gives passengers easy access into the second row. You can completely fold the third-row seats by pressing the PowerFold buttons.

Cooper Ford wants families around Ilion and Little Falls to try the 2020 Explorer's innovative digital technology. This full-size SUV has a 10.1-inch LCD monitor that enters an all-new generation. Having a portrait-inspired layout, the capacitive touch screen generates crisp graphics. From detailed maps to Android functions, you'll see important apps on the high-resolution monitor that's centrally positioned above electronic climate controls, which manage three temperature zones.

Ford+Alexa is a new app that's available in the SYNC suite. Powered by Amazon, this innovative app gives you remote access to a smart home. Want to entertain everyone with cool music? Turn on the 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system that generates nearly 1,000 acoustic watts.

The 2020 Ford Explorer is equipped with a handful of new safety technologies, such as the Active Park Assist 2.0. As you back up, you'll see rear views on the SYNC 3 touch screen. This sophisticated SUV has other accident-mitigation functions, like the Automatic Emergency Braking. Part of the Pre-Collision Assist, the AEB stops the vehicle when it detects pedestrians or decelerating vehicles. Paired with the Trailer Coverage, the updated Blind Spot Information System heightens your awareness of other vehicles in adjacent lanes. The Evasive Steering Assist optimizes the steering system when the car swerves out of control. Additionally, the 2020 Explorer has the Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control that adapts to stop-and-go traffic on the highway.
